The Bio-Centre: A Small Building with a Big Impact

A Presentation Concept for Change

At Mono Models, we strongly believe that sometimes big changes can come from small places. The Bio-Centre is proof of that. During the 28th UIA World Congress of Architects in Copenhagen, Mono Models built a presentation concept of one of Architects Without Borders' actual development projects—the Bio-centre pavilion.

Through basic sanitary functions, a bio-centre provides crucial services in densely packed slums, while also creating a social focal point.

Exploring the Bio-Centre

First of all, the toilets positioned over an underground tank convert human waste into usable gas, providing energy for stoves and heating. What was once a problem is now a solution, reducing pollution and improving lives in impoverished communities.

Secondly, the Bio-Centre does more than just provide facilities: it's a hub for connection, fostering community, and change. It's proof of the power of small ideas to bring about profound shifts.

Our team feels honored to have been chosen as the concept building team. We are all about projects that bring about such positive outcomes.

Mono Models' team participated in all stages of the Bio-Centre Pavilion's life:

  • We created the pavilion itself.

  • We both installed and removed the pavilion during the UIA World Congress of Architects.

  • We transported the pavilion to the Building Green DK exhibition, where they bring together architects, builders, suppliers, craftsmen, and urban planners with a shared passion for sustainable construction.

  • Then we transported the pavilion to Lillesyd Friskole, a unique outdoor school where nature is the classroom. Children are taught in nature, about nature, and by nature. At Mono Models, we believe it's the perfect place for the BIO EKO Pavilion to help kids by providing an outdoor spot for reading and discovery.

What a journey! We hope this presentation concept has made many people think about how we can help those who need it most.
